DOOOO IT.
I am slightly tempted to buy this and have it shipped to me. The want is strong. 10/10 would DD.

I want it so bad, and its in my budget. But I have no license, so I gotta convince my parents

The interior is too 70's for my eyeballs.

Ah, gotcha. I guess it shouldn't be too tricky to convince them. I mean, its reliable, safe for harsh winters, and in budget. Plus, its something you want. Seems like a win-win to me.

"Safe"

Those cars brought a premium back when I lived in AK. How much love ($$) will it need to being it back to a trustworthy condition?

Meh, safe enough. AMC 4.0 won't leave you stranded, and it will be decent in the winter. Crash-wise, I guess not, but it could be a lot worse.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:41 |

Yeah, go do this now. I command you. And when I command you, I command you. Command you.

Reliable yes, Winter, yes. It also looks damn clean for it's age.

I have no Idea, But Im not wearing anything nice when I go see it. Im getting in all its nooks and crannies

Before doing that, i would suggest checking to see if replacement parts are easy to get or if they are made of unobtainium,
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:45 |

Good point, will do that now

YES.
![]() 11/04/2014 at 20:54 |

For sure. Especially for the price. Like I said, I would almost want to buy it and ship it across the country. It would be a lot more interesting to DD instead of my Taurus.

It's not the 4.0, it's the 258. Equally as reliable, less Chrysler electronics to go wrong.

Worth looking at.

Huh. Really? Did not know that. Learn something new everyday!
![]() 11/04/2014 at 21:19 |

Yep, the 4.0 didn't come along til the 1987 model year, so it never made it into an AMC.

Gotcha!

I don't think it's lifted. The Eagle had taller suspension because it was designed more along the lines of a traditional 4x4 than an AWD Scoobie.
The AMC motors were pretty solid units. If any part of the drivetrain, engine, transmission, etc, fails, the parts themselves are reasonably interchangeable with Jeep XJ Cherokee stuff. For example, a Jeep 4.0 is a bolt-in swap.
This one looks like it's in reasonable shape. The Eagle is on my list of cars I want to own. Although, let's face it, I want to own just about every late-model AMC, so that may not be saying much at all... but the Eagle was on my list long before the Gremlin and Spirit were. As much as I like the wagon, though, the Eagle SX4 is on my serious want list. The Kammbach is also pretty high up there.

When I said Lifted, I meant factory Lifted. Its essentially a AMC Hornet with the suspension of a jeep. I love all all mopars. Id kill for anything Mopar, especially a mopar from an extinct mark

Good luck! I approve.
One of the first cars my parents looked at for me when I was in high school was an AMC (Spirit) AMX. We didn't get it because it needed an air pump to pass emissions, and I was bummed.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 00:30 |

I have a feeling it needs emissions work. I just hope it doesnt need a cat.

Looks like the early Eagle models did not have air pumps, so that's a plus. I've heard they could have problems.

*AMC Concord. The Hornet wasn't around anymore when the Eagle came out. The SX4 and Kammback were based on the Spirit, though. Part of the reason I bought my Comanche a few years back were because AMC. Despite it being built by ChryCo it was an AMC design.
